It’s full steam ahead at Mueller, in Austin, Texas - around 40 families have moved in this year to the market-rate homes. The Mueller Foundation is still finalizing paperwork for the residents of the affordable housing scheme which offers homes below market rate. The foundation will retain equity in the homes and ensure that they are not sold to investors to use as rentals. These buyers are hoping to take residence in February.

New homes at Mueller, new urbanism

I spent the morning at the Mueller Development today, and saw the progress being made on the apartment building. Although originally expected to be ready in summer 2008, they are now slated for an end of year completion. By that time, three of the parks will be completed - the first neighborhood park, the lake park and the southwest park are to be ready for summer.

There are still a few inventory homes available from the first phase of building too. David Weekley Homes alone are starting 63 yard homes, 43 row homes and 30 affordable row homes in the summer. With the “Mueller Homes” project also starting, providing 80% affordable housing in mansion-styled condo buildings, there are plenty of opportunities to be part of the new urbanism.
